Dr. Bijoy Kumar Basu

Dr Bejor kumar basu (1912 to 1986) was docter of moden medicine . he was a great humanist . he introduced , spreed and developed acupuncture therapy in india for large masses of common people and a great builder of friendship between people of india and china.
We do remember him for:
1. Historic sole in promoting india and china friendship in the last century.
2. Open mind to accept any modality of treatment.
3. Popularization of acupuncture for and thought common people.
4. Effort to spreed acupuntre in non-commercial way (not for personal gain)
5. Sacrifice for development of accupunture science (donated its house etc.)
6. Pro-people humanist outlook
7. Effort to build organitation of acupuncture in india

Dr. Bijoy Kumar Basu was born at Kamargaon village of Bikrampur of Dhaka Dist. (now Bangladesh) on March 1, 1912, He got his school education at Dhaka At that time he come in contact with Anushilan Samity members, who were involved in anty-british movement. He come to Kolkata for studing M.B. at Calcutta Medical Collage. He got married to Indira Roy in 1935. In 1936 he passed M.B.
In the year 1938 japan invade china. Indian National Congress helped china by fine member team of doctors. Dr.Bijoy Kumar Bose as one member of the team three member of the team returned back with in half years.
Dr.Basu and Dr. Kotnis decided to stay at China for some more time. After long five years of service to aiding Chinese solders and people Dr.Basu returned India in the year 1943.
After returning India he formed All India Kotnis Memorial Committee. He participated in government and non-government relief work. In the year 1957 Dr.Basu visited China . During his visit he was suffering worst for his chronic Sinusitis by acupuncture. He got dramatic improvement. In the year 1959 he went to China and learnt acupuncture.
Primarily he started practice of acupuncture as his own clinic and tried to disseminate his knowledge to other colleagues. Primarily he gave training to some senior Doctors. Later on he trained some junior doctors and popularized acupuncture in rural and slum of Bengal and other provinces to some extra through Kotnis Memorial Committee.
Acupuncture Association Of India was found in the year of 1977. Dr.Basu was the founder president under his leadership AAI has reached to its present position.
According to his wish Mrs.Basu donated their house and 3 lakhs rupee to Government of West Bengal for development of Acupuncture.
He left his last breath on October -10-1986 at his residence in Kolkata suffering from Urinal Bladder Cancer.
